About South Carolina Public Safety Chaplains Association

Chaplains Helping Chaplains

Chaplains are often asked “You help everyone, who helps you?” That’s where SCPSCA comes in. We are an association of chaplains from across the state.  We support one another through fellowship, encouragement, prayer and training.  If you are serving as a chaplain, we welcome you.  If you are interested in becoming a chaplain we can help you get the training and guidance you need; however, SCPSCA does not endorse, ordain or appoint chaplains. If your agency is interested in starting a chaplain program, we can help you set up one.

Regional Focus

SCPSCA connects you with chaplains from all over the state, with a targeted focus on chaplains in your area.  Regions are established to foster stronger relationships with those chaplains closest to you.

Our Regional Coordinators are:

  1. Midlands: Curt Snead, Columbia Police Dept.
  2. GLAMS: Greg Nix, Ware Shoals Fire Dept.
  3. Upstate:  Celeste Cathcart, Boling Springs Fire Dept.
  4. Rock Hill: Andrew Putnam, Rockhill Police Dept.
  5. Pee Dee: Doug Simmons, Palmetto Rural Fire Dept.
  6. Lowcountry: Steven Bell, Beaufort Police Dept.
  7. West Central: Howard Burgess, Aiken County EMS
  8. Grand Strand: Jay Ortiz, North Myrtle Beach Public Safety

How do we help Chaplains?

  • Chaplains experience some tough calls and conversations, the fellowship with like-minded chaplains can help you with some of those tough calls.
  • Regional Coordinators hold regular in-person meetings that build and strengthen relationships with other Chaplains in your region ensuring that you have backup. No one is in this alone.
  • We offer chaplaincy education and training.
  • We encourage membership and participation in national and international chaplaincy organizations.
