About South Carolina Public Safety Chaplains Association

Chaplains Helping Chaplains

Chaplains are often asked “You help everyone, who helps you?” That’s where SCPSCA comes in. The purpose of SCPSCA is to support those who serve as public safety chaplains. We are made up of paid and volunteer chaplains who represent various agencies across the state of South Carolina.  Support comes through building relationships with one another, encouraging and praying for one another and providing training on topics that chaplains encounter.

Regional Focus

SCPSCA connects you with chaplains from all over the state, with a targeted focus on chaplains in your area.  Regions are established to foster stronger relationships with those chaplains closest to you.

Our Regional Coordinators are:

  1. Upstate:  Celeste Cathcart Boling Springs Fire Department Greenville
  2. Rock Hill: Gina Hovis Newport Fire Department Rock Hill
  3. Pee Dee: Doug Simmons Palmetto Rural Fire Department Darlington
  4. Midlands: Greg Weigold Chapin Police Department
  5. Grand Strand: Jay Ortiz North Myrtle Beach Public Safety
  6. Lowcountry: vacant
  7. Beaufort: Steven Bell Beaufort Police Department

How do we help Chaplains?

  • Chaplains experience some tough calls and conversations, where do they go with for help?
  • Monthly we have a Chaplain Care Conference call where Chaplains connect to vent, ask for guidance, encourage, support and pray for one another.
  • Regional Coordinators plan in-person meetings that accomplish the same goal as the monthly care calls. The strength of the relationships with Chaplains in your region ensure that Chaplains have backup. No one is in this alone.
  • We offer chaplaincy education and training.
  • We encourage membership and participation in national and international public safety chaplaincy organizations.
